Redlining didn’t just shape neighborhoods—it shaped emotional landscapes, too. For African American youth, its legacy has contributed to depression through a cascade of systemic harms that touch every part of life. Here’s how: There are many factors to this starting with Mental health from environmental stressors, underfunded schools, and limited opportunities. Over-Policing and Criminalization, Housing Instability with family stress. We carry over intergenerational trauma and wealth gaps, along with data that many ignore.
Hello, my name is Suprina Firewalking Edwards and this blog isn't for everyone but it has a clear message on why I fight to do better and why our children who have been in foster care has been not only done unfairly by not being able to have healthy parents but how they are aged out of foster care with not much of an identity of who they really are. I found myself crying as I was writing a proposal of what I am aiming to reach and how much harm I have done to my own children, and what my parents have done to me.
However, many would harper on depression, giving up, carrying hate, unforgiveness and more but that's not what this blog is all about. It's about family values that never leave some of us that we must pass to the next generation. I don't know who this is for, but I know this is a powerful message not just to those who will read it but to myself and the reason it's so important for me to draw closer to God and remember to resist the devil that he may flea before all things come together. I cried and asked God why do people see us wrong for standing for our truth that has been covered for so many years? Why do we have to be silent about our past, our present and our tomorrow. I realize we don't for those that have discovered the truth not only in their faith but in their history that seems to bother many. I am transitioning into my full potential, my purpose, my wealth on many levels and to my surprise I have actually been wealth all my life but didn't know how to embrace it because my elder chose to bow to the gods that have no soul. They chose to be quiet when they should have spoken up and this generation has chose not to. Yet many still need help in who they are. I pray that as I continue to do these blogs, I give you plenty to think about and stop blaming your past and take your future, your now by the God given authority as led by the MOST HIGH GOD. Be strong and of good courage there is a future when you're not fronting.
Sincerely,
Suprina Firewalking Edwards
